Nursery Program

New Nursery Program

Through the guidance of Barbara DeWilde and our Nursery Attendant, Lorrie Curran, St. Peter’s will offer a special nursery school curriculum starting this fall. Based upon the Godly Play curriculum, it uses wooden figures and felt “landscapes” to teach Old and New Testament Bible Stories. The program recognizes that children already have a relationship with God, and so uses storytelling to encourage children to explore and deepen their relationship with God. Here is a typical morning:

  • As the children come in, the teacher and another adult greets them.
  • Children take a carpet square and sit in the worship area.
  • When everyone is seated, the teacher welcomes and greets the group.
  • After a brief prayer, song or two is sung.
  • The teacher tells the day’s Bible story. For the schedule of the stories, click here.
  • After the story, children are invited to free play, draw pictures relating to the story, or play with the figures and felt landscape.

Because the program uses lots of props, it is labor intensive to start up. Albie Raichle has already agreed to help make most of the wooden props, but there is still sanding to be done to the figurines, as well as much cutting and preparation of felt and other materials. These items are available online, but are expensive. If you would like to help, either by purchasing materials, kits, or creating props, please contact the office or see Barbara DeWilde or our Nursery Attendant, Lorrie Curran.
